Sun will be in Taurus from May 14th until the 14th June and the Aditya for the sign is Aryaman. Aryaman means a noble man and he stands for the honour and dignity that protects one’s integrity and family. Aryama is the deity of the 12th nakṣatra Uttara phālguni that is considered most auspicious for a marriage, and commitment. Sri Kriśna in Bhagavad gīta (10.29) says he is Aryama who, the chief of Pitris, our ancestors (पितृणामर्यमा). Aryama’s blessings are sought equally during marriage and in ancestral rites. Aryaman is also said to keep a watchful eye and leads the way to safe paths removing all inequity. The Milky Way which is the hazy band of light seen in the night sky formed from stars is referred to in the Rig Veda as the “aryama pantha” – the path of Aryama.
In the chariot of Aryaman, Pulaha is the sage that praises him, however he is also fortunate to have the company of Nārada as a Gandharva who sings in his devotion. We are generally more acquainted with Nārada as mischievous celestial messenger who is a manas putra of Brahma. According to Brahma vaivarta purāṇa, Brahma asked him to become a householder and participate in the creative process. However, Nārada was devoted to Viṣṇu, the preserver in the trinity and did not wish to leave his place with him. He was cursed by Brahma to a life of Gandharva prince Upabarhaṇa. a great musician and unrivalled in the handling of the Vīṇā. He then spent his life singing and dancing, married the 50 daughters of a Gandharva Citraratha. By becoming a householder, Nārada could relieve himself from the Brahma Dosha (fault of not begetting a child), thus in a position to redeem himself in the eyes of Brahma. After several lives and intense austerities, he was blessed with the vision of Nārāyaṇa in his earthly life and was reunited with Viṣṇu after he dropped his body. The meaning of Nārāyaṇa (from the two words nara and ayana) is understood as the ultimate path (paramam padam) for humans, an epithet for Viṣṇu, नराणामयनं यस्मात् तेन नारायणः स्मृतः (narāṇāmayanaṃ yasmāt tena nārāyaṇaḥ smṛtaḥ).
Transits
Sun enters Taurus and joins Jupiter in an auspicious Gopala Yoga. The exact conjunction is on 19th of May in Kritikka as Venus enters Taurus. Venus and Jupiter are natural enemies as Venus owns houses that are 6th and 11th from Jupiter’s mulatrikona (office space) In Sagittarius. They are usually function at cross purposes as they have different goals and methods of achieving them. Jupiter is the preceptor of divine beings known for his amiability and compassion, whereas Venus as the preceptor of demonic forces can be an elitist, revengeful and selfish. Jupiter and Venus get into a war on the between 22nd and 24th May in the nakṣatra of Kritikka whilst they are both combust. Venus wins as it crosses Jupiter, although Jupiter is purer in its intention particularly as it has had it conjunction with Sun.
Caution is warranted as the ominous conjunction of Mars and Rahu is on the 18th of May in Revati. This conjunction can cause shocks and erode our faith. It can also cause sudden disruption particularly in travel as Revati signifies travel. Mars may feel stifled as he moves on to Aries, his place of mulatrikona (office) on the 1st of June as he will be aspected by Saturn in Aquarius and Rahu in Pisces.
Mercury joins Taurus on 31st May. On the 4th of June, there is a war between Mercury and Jupiter in Krittika. Jupiter wins the war. On the same day (until the early hours of 7th June) we will have five planets in Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter in one sign in Taurus with 4 of them in Rohini and Jupiter in Kritikka. Taurus is a fruitful sign and the presence of many benefics with Sun is a blessing, however there are one to many, which might lead to distraction or juggling many tasks for those with Taurus ascendants or particularly the Taurus Moon Signs. They might find that they have overcommitted as many things land simultaneously at their doorstep.
The graha malika (garland of planets) remains from Saturn in Aquarius to Sun in Taurus first and then Venus extends it to Gemini on the 12th of June. This pattern is controlled by three strong and unrelenting malefics in own sign, Saturn in Aquarius, Rahu/Ketu in exchange (Pisces/Virgo) and Mars in Aries indicating that to reach the pot of gold in Taurus, one must have really work hard.
