How Happy Can you be? – Part 2

How Happy Can you be? – Part 2

Judgement

In determining the ability and potential of a person to be happy, I summarise the following points to be considered

    • Nature and dignity of the planets in the 4th house and its trines – debilitated planets will cause a fall unless there is a cancellation. Malefic planets in trines to the 4th house seriously disturb the possibility of happiness or liberation.
    • Aspects to the 4th house including the hemming of the 4th house by malefic planets (papa kartari)
    • The placement of Moon and its dispositor
    • Nature of 4th lord and its placement
    • Bhavāt bhavaṁ – note the 4th house from the 4th lord as a source of happiness and 5th from the 4th lord is what you are scared of losing. The 4th from the ascendant lord binds
    • Redeeming influences on the Ascendant – Jupiter, Mercury or benefics, exalted planets or lord of the Ascendant
    • Strength of the 4th lord and the Moon in every varga and the sign it is in ṣaṣṭhiamsa (D60)

Following from Part 1 of this article, if the 4th house is afflicted by two or more malefics either by occupation or aspect or by malefics on either side; and when the Moon is also disturbed by two or more malefics or ill-placed with malefics, then such a person can find it difficult to experience happiness. They find emotional regulation difficult as they may have a narrow ‘window of tolerance’. This term was coined by Daniel Siegel an American professor of psychiatry at UCLA to describe the zone of arousal in which a person is able to function most effectively where they are able to readily receive, process, and integrate information and otherwise respond to the demands of everyday life without much difficulty. They may not be aware of this as they will find the process of reflection difficult because of their nature to defend themselves, project on others what they are feeling or delude themselves. These reactions can lead them to a poor way of relating to others. Despite this predicament, persons with such placements can find solace in work and can be very competent in their fields.

Examples

I have taken some examples of eminent personalities and celebrities to highlight the importance of the emotional intelligence provided by the 4th house and Moon and how despite being successful externally, they never experienced much happiness. I have also taken some examples of how some have redeemed themselves by following the internal path of śreyas – the path of good.

The two rajas planets Venus and Mercury are in the 4th house in a war. Venus is in the 4th house is in directional strength promising satisfaction of desires. Mercury promises wealth as the lord of the 2nd and 11th in the 4th house. The 4th house is jointly aspected by Saturn and Mars creating a yama yoga of destruction. The 4th lord Mars is a malefic – she fought for happiness. The 4th from the 4th lord is the Scorpio the 4th house, so home and stability was important to her. The presence of Venus and Mercury in the 4th create a lot of thirst and hankering and are not conducive for equanimity or stability. The ātma kāraka Moon is the 12th lord and alone in a kema druma yoga without support and aspected by Saturn. The dispositor of the Moon, Mercury has lost in the war with Venus unable to secure what she wanted.

The 4th house is damaged by the presence of the Yama Yoga, neither Moon or Mercury the dispositor are strong to protect the mind or the 4th house. Therefore despite being a successful actress and TV presenter she could not emotionally regulate herself. Quoting from Wikipedia

Flack suffered from long-term mental health issues, attempting suicide and self-harming on various occasions as a young presenter and actress. Flack was known to not take well the criticism that came with fame, and TV producer Anna Blue said that she just wasn’t emotionally wired to deal with all the problems that came with being famous.”

Jupiter is in directional strength in the Ascendant and could have protected her but it is conjunct with two malefics Rahu and Mars and receives the sign aspect of the debilitated ascendant lord Sun. The 10th lord Venus cancels the debilitation of the Sun and her career lasted nearly 20 years. She was asked to step down from hosting the TV show “Love Island” after being charged for assaulting her boyfriend. Unable to handle the shame or seek help, she killed herself at 40 years of age on Feb 15th 2020 in the mahādaśa of Mercury and antara of the 4th lord Mars. Mercury is in Scorpio with Venus in ṣaṣṭhiamsa governed by kantaka devata which is thorny and punishing.

The 4th house is Aquarius, a malefic sign with two fiery planets, the 10th lord Sun and the ascendant lord Mars that is combust and a retrograde 8th lord Mercury. None of these planets are not prone to nurturing or giving a lot of stability. From Wikipedia

Hilton moved frequently in her youth, living in Beverly Hills, the Hamptons, and a suite in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Manhattan. She was raised in a very “sheltered, conservative” atmosphere; her parents were particularly strict and she was not allowed to date, wear make-up and certain types of clothes, or go to school dances.”

Moon in Puśya nakṣatra is aspected by Venus promising her abundance, but it is highly afflicted conjunct with a marana Rahu and receives the sign aspect of Mars and Sun from Aquarius. Moon is also in the ṣaṣṭhiamsa devata of Gulika, meaning poison. Unable to regulate herself emotionally, she was very troubled by what people often thought about her. From Wikipedia

When people you don’t even know hate you, that’s when you know you’re the best”.

Malefics in the 4th house also give rise to kapaṭa yoga which makes a person capable of deceit unless there is positive influence on the ascendant. When there are malefics in the 4th house, the person may experience a lot of unkindness in early life, making him adopt equally unsavoury strategies to cope. The presence of the 8th Lord in 4th house is very inauspicious as it shows the possibility of cruelty and abuse. Who then will fight for her happiness?

Both the 4th lords – Saturn and Rahu are malefic, so she will be able to fight for her happiness. However, Saturn is afflicted aspected by Mars. The presence of Jupiter with Saturn should help but it has lost in a war with Saturn. The exchange of 4th lord Saturn with the 8th lord Mercury does not help. The abuse at Provo school happened in mahādaśa of Mercury and the antara of Saturn in 1998/1999.

Hilton is finally in a stable relationship and married at the age of 40 in the mahādaśa of Venus and the antara of Saturn in November 2021. Venus is the 7th lord and is aspected by the 9th lord Moon and promises her abundance and life should change positively after marriage.

The 4th house Libra has Sun ātma kāraka conjunct Ketu and Mercury. Venus the 4th lord is debilitated and in an exchange with Mercury the 3rd lord. This exchange connects the 2nd lord Sun with the 4th and the 11th lord conferring him wealth. Can a debilitated Venus fight for his happiness?

The 4th house is flanked by Mars and a debilitated Venus which is not fortunate. A debilitated planet is like Saturn. He found his childhood without love and unable to express himself emotionally. Both 8th lords Saturn and Rahu aspect the 4th house creating huge storms and interference in how he wanted to lead his life. He was divorced in the mahādaśa of Rahu and antara of Rahu.

The ascendant lord Moon is afflicted as it is conjunct with 8th lord Rahu and aspected Sun and Ketu, a spiritual outlook may be necessary to find purpose and happiness. The 4th from the 4th lord Venus is the 6th house of vices where he finds comfort or the 7th house of relationships after taking into account the exchange of Venus with Mercury. He was encouraged by his maternal uncle Lord Mountbatten (represented by Mercury who is the third lord) to have numerous affairs to toughen up before settling down in marriage.

The 4th from the ascendant lord is the ascendant itself, which mean the real bondage life is his own image. The ascendant does not have the benefit of the aspect of Jupiter or Mercury. Mars aspects the ascendant and is the dispositor of Moon, the amatya kāraka, so the path is service. He is the longest serving heir apparent as the Crown Prince in the UK. His interests in environment and conservation has kept him focussed during the turbulent years.

He found happiness later in life when he married the love of his life Camilla Parker Bowles now the Duchess of Cornwall in the mahādaśa of Rahu and antrara of the 9th lord Ketu.

The 4th house is Aquarius with 7th lord Venus and the Ascendant Lord Mars in a war. The conjunction of Venus and Mars creates uncontrolled passion. The 12th and 7th lord Venus is nevertheless victorious in the war and the intelligence of the Ascendant lord is lost. There is a presence of kapaṭa yoga of deceit as there are no benefic influences on the ascendant. Jupiter, the 5th lord has a strong sign aspect on the ascendant giving him the intelligence but its dispositor Mars has lost in the war, weakening Jupiter.

Both the 4th lords are malefic – Saturn in 12th house exchange with Venus showing indulgences in secret. Rahu the other 4th lord aspects the 4th house. The source of happiness is the 4th from the 4th lord. The 4th from Saturn is the 3rd house of entertainment and affairs of sex. The 4th from Rahu is 6th house both the houses of vices and problems. The kāraka Moon in the 5th house exchanges with Ketu creating a papa kartari (scissors) for the 4th house by exchange.

Epstein was high profile financier who was arrested for sexual trafficking in July 2019 and he committed suicide in Aug 2019 at age 66 in Mars mahādaśa and antara of Mars. Mars the ascendant lord is in Scorpio in Ṣaṣṭhiamsa.

His accomplice and long-time friend Ghislaine Maxwell also had a Venus and Mars combination in the 8th house. She has a very afflicted Moon aspected by the nodes, Saturn and Mars.

The 4th house is Libra with ātma kāraka Saturn exalted and retrograde that is the 7th and 8th lord. The other 8th lord Rahu also aspects the 4th house. Monroe was devoid of home and shelter. Her source of happiness is 4th from 4th lord Venus which is the Ascendant her fame. 4th from the Ascendant lord binds us. Here, 4th from the ascendant lord Moon is the 10th house with Venus in it her work was her bondage.

Though Moon is the ascendant lord in the 7th and not afflicted, three malefics Saturn, Rahu and Mars in the 4th house and its trines did not give her a chance for happiness. She was fostered as a child and abused and she became addicted to drugs and alcohol. She suffered from mood disorders. She died at the 36 years of overdose (when Saturn matures) in Jupiter mahādaśa and Mars antara, both planets placed in the 8th house. Jupiter the 9th Lord is aspected by Rahu in guru caṇḍala yoga of conspiracy and betrayal. When both 9th and 10th lord are in the 8th house, renunciation is advisable.

The ātma kāraka Mars is in the 4th house which is the 6th lord. He was a fearless child and taken from his mother at the age of 2 and made a perilous journey to Lhasa at 4 years of age as the 14th Dalai Lama. Planets in dual signs Sun, Mercury, Rahu and Ketu have a sign aspect on the 4th house. His source of happiness is 4th from the 4th lord which is the 4th house itself. His source of happiness is also his source of bondage as it is also the 4th as the ascendant and 4th lord is Mercury. The other 4th lord is Rahu is debilitated and 4th from Rahu is 10th house – the seat of power. He ran from Tibet to India in 1959 at the start of Rahu mahādaśa and the antra of Rahu using ṣaṣṭiyāyinī dasa. He has formally renounced the rights to rule Tibet.

Moon in pūrva phālguṇī is with Venus in the 3rd house placed 12th from the 4th house and aspected by 8th lords Saturn and Rahu. However there is a śubha kartari – benefics on either side of the 4th house. The Sun is the dispositor of Moon and is aspected by Jupiter, blessing his intelligence. The path is shown by the 12th lord Venus is in the 3rd house of applied intelligence. Dalai Lama showed immense courage and intelligence and established new home in India, Buddhist institutions and state of art library for his disciples. Venus can show the path of compassion, and he is the global ambassador for compassion. 4th lord Mercury is in bhadra mahāpuruṣa yoga preferring the route of non-violence. Both Jupiter and Mercury influence the ascendant which helped him to follow the path of śreyas – the path of good.

The 4th house is Capricorn with Rahu. An exalted 4th and 5th lord Saturn is in the ascendant. Exalted planets have the energy of Vishnu – purity and sustenance. Moon is exalted but aspected by Rahu and in the 8th, the negative effects of which will be mitigated by the kāraka of the 8th house Saturn in the ascendant. The sun is the badhakesh in the 12th house – at the feet of Vishnu dissolving the bad effects of the Mars and Venus yoga. Sun is with exalted ātma kāraka Mercury in the 12th house making the path of renunciation stronger. 9th lord in the 12th does not show fortune. 10th lord in the 8th also supports renunciation and healing.

Her real source of her happiness is the community as the 4th from 4th lord Saturn is the 4th house with the amatyakāraka – work. The real blessing is the ascendant with an exalted 4th lord Saturn aspected by Jupiter forming a kalika yoga and the sign aspect of Moon from the 8th house brought her fame.

To conclude, it is our mind that makes us or breaks us. It can be a great friend or a foe. If we are able to restrain our mind and senses, we can follow the internal path of śreyas and achieve more equanimity and joy. If we let our senses control us, then we can lose our way. For those whose Moon and the 4th house is afflicted, choosing the path of work and service will help them find meaning in life.

Of all the remedies for the 4th house and the trines, the best is to do the 12 syllable mantra of the avatara of the planet in the 12th house. This will helps keep us firm in our path to evolution.
