Sun will be in Taurus from May 14th until the early hours of 15th June. The Aditya for the sign is Aryaman. Aryaman means a noble man and he stands for the honour and dignity that protects one’s integrity and family. The sign Taurus also signifies the family and lineage. From the peace prayer in Taittirīyopaniṣad, Aryaman is the solar deity that governs our eyes. The ability to see not only includes the power of sight but also of discernment. Śrī Kṛṣṇa in Bhagavad Gītā Verse 13.28 highlights the important of seeing over knowing – yaḥ paśhyati sa paśhyati – the one who truly sees, sees that. Eyes are also connected to the feet as they are both born from the fire element (agni tattva) responsible for the path we take.
The apsara (celestial nymph) in the chariot with Aryama this month is Puñjikasthalā. She is one of the famous eleven celebrated apsaras of the heavens and was born as Añjana, the daughter to the monkey king Kunjara due to a curse of the preceptor of the devas, Brhaspati. She retained the power to change her form by will and was the wife of another monkey called Kesarī. When she prayed for a child, she was bestowed a powerful, intelligent son endowed with extraordinary courage, energy and prowess through the wind god, Vayu (Verses 17-19, Kiṣkindhā Kanda, Sarga 66, Valmiki Rāmāyaṇa).
Her child was none other than Hanuman (also known as Añjaneya ). He is one of the central characters of the epic Rāmāyaṇa who took a mighty leap to Lanka to find the whereabouts of the Sīta, the wife of the protagonist of the epic, Śrī Rāmā. Sita had been captured by antagonist of the epic, Ravana the king of Lanka. It was a previous encounter with Puñjikasthalā that was responsible for Ravana’s restrained behaviour towards Sīta. Ravana was constantly reminded of the curse of Brahma placed on him (after he had molested Puñjikasthalā) that his head would split into hundred pieces if he violated any other woman. (Verses 10-15 Yuddha Kanda, Sarga 13, Valmiki Rāmāyaṇa).
Transits
Sun enters Taurus leaving the company of Mercury in Aries. Jupiter will be in Gemini having entered the sign only a few hours earlier than the sun. It will move beyond the first degree on the 19th and stabilise. Repeating from my last month’s write up “Jupiter’s move into Gemini is good for significations of wealth. However, as Jupiter will be travelling at 2.75X its natural speed, discernment can be weak, one can overlook facts, more so before its combustion on 25th June. Decisions could unduly favour profit or the elite. Jupiter will leave Gemini on October 18th for Cancer and re-enter Gemini in retrograde motion on the 6th of December and remain so until March 11th 2026. From then on, it will be direct until June 1st 2026”.
Sun will be flanked by the two benefics Jupiter and Mercury on either side, which can promise success in undertakings. We also have to mindful that Saturn from Pisces has the third aspect on Sun in Taurus, it might pay for the leaders to be conscious of the benefit to the common man in all their decisions to be truly effective.
The major transit this month is that of the nodes Rahu and Ketu. They leave behind the Pisces/Virgo axis and move into Aquarius/ Leo axis on the 18th of May and will remain in these signs until 6th December 2026. Wherever the nodes are, that is where the maximum wrangling and churning happens. There will be an invitation for those with ascendants, Sun or Moon signs in Aquarius and Leo to introspect and make changes in their lives. The eclipses in September that continue in Pisces/Virgo axis will only serve as a mirage as the signs Aquarius and Leo are śīrṣodayaḥ (head first) – hence will yield results in the first half of the transit period. Of particular note is that Rahu in Aquarius is strong and will yield results akin to its exaltation sign Gemini. A planet in own sign is endowed with knowledge, the attribute of Siva and therefore, Rahu the significator of large machines, technology particularly artificial intelligence should prosper.
With the transit of Saturn in Pisces in March, we noted the formation of Kala Sarpa dosha (planets hemmed between the nodes) in the sky which will prevail till July, bringing with it binding events. Once the nodes transit, there will also be a graha mallika or garland pattern ( planets in every sign) from Rahu in Aquarius to Ketu in Leo. There could be a feeling of enhanced stuck-ness, an inability to move from positions we take. Mercury’s move into Taurus on 23rd will grant some temporary relief which will only last till Venus moves into Aries on 31st May and restores the garland pattern until the 6th of June.
However, the mood will change to a more positive note as Mercury moves into Gemini to join Jupiter on the 6th of June to form the yoga of success in all undertakings. Mercury in Gemini confers a Bhadra mahāpuruṣa which can bring about enhanced communication skills and prosperity. Shortly after on the same day, Mars moves out of debilitation into the sign of Leo to join Ketu (the co-lord of Pisces), breaking the garland pattern in the sky. Mars aspects Pisces from Leo where Saturn is placed causing yama yoga of destruction.There should some relief in anger, frustration and acts of revenge. However, as Mars lends a protective aspect to Pisces from Leo where Saturn is placed a yama yoga of destruction will be formed. Mars will have to meet Ketu towards the end of July. The meeting of Mars and Ketu can prove fractious, however perhaps such intensity and heroism will be necessary to break from tyrannical binding circumstances.
Let us pray to Aryama Aditya to reveal to us the clearest path for peace and good governance so that we may get out of all forms of conflict.
