Sun in Aries 2026

The Sun will be transiting into its exaltation sign Aries on April 14th and will remain in the sign until May 14th. It is a New Year for many who follow a solar calendar; I wish everyone new beginnings and a very happy New Year.

The Aditya associated with Aries is Dhātṛ, from the root dha, meaning to place, establish, hold, or sustain—thus, the supporter of the world. Dhātṛ upholds Ṛta, the cosmic order underlying the movements of the heavens and the rhythm of life. His role is foundational rather than judicial; he does not correct disorder but ensures that order can exist and endure.

At a time when the world is witnessing fragile ceasefires and profound loss of life, this sustaining principle becomes especially relevant.

He is also the force by which order re-establishes itself after dissolution—not reversing death, but restoring continuity, as expressed in Ṛgveda 10.18.5:

यथाहानि अनुपूर्वं भवन्ति यथा ऋतव ऋतुभिर्यन्ति साधु ।

यथा न पूर्वमपरो जहात्येवा धातरायूंषि कल्पयैषाम् ॥

yathāhāni anupūrvaṃ bhavanti yathā ṛtava ṛtubhir yanti sādhu |

yathā na pūrvam aparo jahāti evā dhātar āyūṃṣi kalpayaiṣām ||

“As days follow one another in order, as seasons succeed seasons in due course,

as the successor does not abandon the predecessor, so, O Dhātā, sustain the lives of these.”

Those with the Sun in Aries or in the 1st house are blessed with creativity, endurance, and sustaining power.

Transits

The Sun joins Venus in Aries on April 14th. With the Sun exalted, leadership and high ideals come into focus. However, caution is warranted: between April 15th–19th, planets arrange themselves across three houses, forming a triangular configuration (previously seen between February 23rd–March 25th, before the escalation of geopolitical tensions), known as Shula Yoga, with Mars as the dominant force.

This is echoed by underlying tension, as Mars in Pisces comes into close orb with Saturn and Mercury. The exact Mars–Saturn conjunction occurs late on April 19th. Mars and Saturn together can generate destructive energy, while Mars and Mercury may intensify competition. All three remain in close proximity in the intense yet deep-awakening nakshatra of Uttarabhadrapada until April 22nd. Although Mars holds the upper hand, its strength is tempered in the water sign Pisces; outcomes may be diffused or restrained.

This is particularly so, as on April 19th, when the Moon enters its exaltation sign Taurus, the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya arises, symbolising unending prosperity. Venus follows into Taurus the same day, forming Annapurna Yoga of abundance. Venus in Taurus also bestows Malavya Yoga for the fixed signs—Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius—bringing refinement and enjoyment until May 14th.

Mercury moves into Aries on April 30th, joining the Sun and forming Budha Aditya Yoga, enhancing intellect, skill, and dexterity. Mars enters Aries on May 11th, joining the Sun and Mercury, activating the dynamic synergy of strength and intellect created by the Sun and Mercury. After a long and arduous journey through Aquarius with Rahu and Pisces with Saturn, Mars regains strength and authority in Aries, where it remains until June 21st.

Meanwhile, Pisces experiences pressure from malefic influences on either side—Rahu in Aquarius and Mars in Aries—creating potential strain. This effect will be mitigated by the sign aspect of Gemini, where Jupiter is placed.

Festivals

Akshaya Tritiya, meaning “unending prosperity,” falls on April 19th, when both the Sun and Moon are exalted. It is considered an auspicious day for charity.

Narasimha Jayanti falls on April 29th (Vaishakha Shukla Chaturdashi). Narasimha, an incarnation of Vishnu, is revered as the protector of devotees pursuing a spiritual path. It is believed that Vishnu appeared as Narasimha, the man-lion, to protect Prahlada from the tyranny of Hiranyakashipu.

Buddha Purnima, celebrating the birth of Gautama Buddha, falls on May 1st, the full moon of Vaishakha.

Let us invoke the blessings of Dhātṛ Aditya to uphold, sustain, and support unity among human beings in a time of fragility and unrest.
